Pakistan Must Restore Natural Balance to Tackle Climate Threats, Says Federal Minister
*Islamabad *– Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Khalid Magsi, addressed an interactive session titled “The Solution is to Reduce Pollution” organized by the Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF). Highlighting pollution as one of the most urgent challenges of our time, he emphasized its severe impact on human health, environmental degradation, and economic growth.
The Minister noted that the Government of Pakistan has launched several initiatives to tackle environmental challenges, including the Clean and Green Pakistan Movement, the National Electric Vehicle Policy, renewable energy expansion, and measures to curb single-use plastics. These steps, he said, reflect Pakistan’s alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its commitment to building a sustainable future. Drawing inspiration from Islamic teachings, he recalled the guidance of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who advised against wasting water even at a flowing river and described tree plantation as an act of continuous charity.
Sharing global perspectives, Mr. Magsi pointed out that countries such as China, Japan, and several European nations offer valuable lessons in pollution control, renewable energy investment, waste segregation, and circular economy practices. He underscored the importance of learning from these models while adapting them to Pakistan’s local context with creativity and innovation.
In his address, the Minister praised students, teachers, and young scientists as the real agents of change. “While governments provide policies and frameworks, it is your innovations, awareness, and daily habits that will shape our collective future,” he remarked. He lauded the Pakistan Science Foundation for its continuous efforts in promoting scientific thinking and engaging youth in national development. He further encouraged PSF to continue organizing interactive sessions in educational institutions nationwide to foster a culture of environmental responsibility among the younger generation.
Concluding his remarks, Khalid Magsi called for collective commitment: “The solution is indeed to reduce pollution, but beyond that, it is to restore the natural balance created by Allah. Guided by faith, inspired by global best practices, and strengthened by national policies, together we can ensure a clean, green, and sustainable Pakistan for future generations.
