COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) is the fast-growing research-based university in Pakistan, with a wide range of academic programs, ranging from basic sciences to cutting edge emerging technologies and a network of inter-disciplinary research centers making it an ideal place for higher studies. Established in 1998 as COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) and later granted status of Degree Awarding Institute (DAI) by Federal Government of Pakistan on August 12, 2000, it has been upgraded to a Federally Chartered University in April 2018 under the COMSATS University Islamabad Act 2018. Following is the desired information from COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI): It currentlycomprises of six faculties, 19 departments and 08 research centers. Presently more than 98degree programs are on offer in which around 35,000 students are enrolled. The faculties are as follows:

ORIC-Professional Development (ORIC-PD) at CUI is imparting professional training and executive development solutions for Industries, academics, researchers as well as a wide array of other professionals working in various capacities. It is currently engaged with experts in order to create unique programs that not only address market needs, but also create new ideas, and introduce newer areas to a range of professionals. ORIC-PD has already imparted training to nearly 900 plus professionals and students from a number of organizations, industries and universities.

Faculty Development Academy (FDA) has been working on professional development of CUI faculty as well as non-faculty since October 2011. FDA also arranges workshops/trainings for the employees of other universities as per their needs. Over the past years, FDA has launched diverse programs of trainings at different times of the year and for different levels, to enhance the knowledge and skills repertoire of its faculty/non-faculty members. Besides the training of faculty, FDA also organizes programs that assist administrative officers and staff members for developing skills in order to prepare them for institutional efficiency and effectiveness.

CUI Abbottabad campus is providing water testing facility to general public on commercial basis. The program is looked after by Dr. Abdul Mannan from LiScent. The project is underway and the marketing of this facility will soon be conducted on website as well as through print media.

Modern implants and biomedical materials are rarely used in Pakistan, mostly imported on initiatives taken by progressive surgeons, affording patients and hospitals, suppliers and/or social helpers. However, the costs borne are very high and there is a dire need to develop these materials locally and also explore the local potential for material based novelty. Therefore it is of utmost importance to coordinate all efforts on the biomedical material front in Pakistan. Coordination of all efforts shall rely on identification and networking between national and international experts and industry. This requires the transition of lab based concepts to patient-friendly solutions – which Interdisciplinary Research Centre in Biomedical Materials (IRCBM) at CUI Lahore campus is developing. Research groups working at IRCBM include Bone repair & Regeneration, Dental Materials & Clinical Applications, Soft Tissue, and Sensor and Biosensor.
